La seconde partie s'attache à l'analyse des récits sur la longue durée de vie. Après avoir décrit la survenue de la contamination dans une histoire de vie, l'auteur dégage des façons différentes de raconter le déroulement des ces années autour de logiques ou de principes organisateurs : trois modalités ou formes de récit ont été mises en évidence.
